This year’s Nairobi Legal Awards was held on 4th December 2020, the annual function held to celebrate excellence in the legal profession. The awards encompass legal practitioners in private practice, public practice and corporate and legal leadership spaces and cover practitioners in Nairobi and Thika. The third edition was termed the Resilience Edition in line with the adventurous year that 2020 has been. Among other worthy nominees, TripleOKLaw LLP managed to scoop three awards and was shortlisted for a fourth.

Lawyer of the Year was scooped by Managing Partner John M. Ohaga, SC for his leadership, innovation in his practice, and excellent client service. He was lauded for being a trendsetter and an inspiration for every advocate and his top-notch exhibition of excellence and resilience.

The Community Service Award was given to Partner Marysheila Onyango-Oduor for standing out in her dedication to legal education and her transformative engagement in the Law Society of Kenya both at the National and Regional Levels. In particular, she was recognised for her being instrumental in creating systems to aid advocates in navigating the e-filing system in July 2020.

The Young Lawyer of the Year Award went to Associate Leyla Ahmed FCIArb. An outstanding associate and brilliant litigator, she stood out for her humble personality, her willingness to assist other young lawyers and her strategic thinking exemplified by her outreach measures in enhancing other practitioners and access to Justice for the public during the pandemic period.

The Firm is also proud to have been named 2nd runner-up in the Large Law Firm of the Year category. As stated by the Managing Partner, we have a culture of excellence on both individual and organisational levels and are glad to have been recognised for our dedication in various capacities.
